HELP ! sparkplugs are getting short every week 2007/07/20 18:37 Karma: 0
Hey there all of you.. I recently got my 83 classic completely renovated. and she looks sparkling ! the main hiccup i am facing is that from the time she has come back from the renovation, the spark plugs are getting short every 200-250 kms. they duisplay very black soot when open. I use only castrol super tt 30/ml per litre. the average is good, between 35-40. I think there is some problem with the timing,..... please put in your expert advice and bail me out....thanks

OK mate what sparkplugs are you useing make & numbers off the plug please the petrol you are useing & you are a bit heavy on the oil as jAWA engines will run flatout all day on a 40 to 1 mix of super TT oil ignition timing likes to be around 2.8 to 3.2 mm before TDC .
what brand of sparkplugs are avaliable in your part of the world .
we will start with that for now .

It is a timing problem. Your timing is advanced. If it isnn't then your condensor is not functioning properly. I am assuming that the bike isn't giving you any starting problems. An immediate solution could be to increase the gap on the plugs by half a mm.
