There are 3 Carburetors that may be rightly used for Yezdi / Jawa Bikes - - Jikov - Original CZ models & the first Jawa bikes in India
- Pacco - The most common for all Yezdi bikes
- Mikuni - Used by Enfield Bullets & Rajdoots 175
Jikov carburetor Jikov is the best carb for the Y/J bikes. However common problems they face are over flooding & low mileage. Nevertheless, pick up & power are the best with these carbs. The flooding problem with the old Jikov is because of a bad float needle seating. Use grinding paste and create a correct seat on the needle [and use a filter in line on the petrol pipe.] Also, these carbs were designed to work in a level horizontal position and if the bikes are parked on the side stand, leaks and flooding may be expected.Pacco is another version of the Mikcarb (Mikuni), the only difference being the choking system (overflow method). Rajdoots also came with Pacco carbs, but had the choke knobs instead. A Mikcarb (Mikuni) may be used on a Roadking or a Classic with good results after a few mods are done. The 2 carb studs need to be changed to longer ones and the carb cover will have to removed unless a good lathe shop can alter the carb top, to take the threaded part, so that the cover can be held in place. Either the carb from an Enfield Bullet, with the smallest size jet [experiment with various combinations of jets and needles] or one from Radjoot 175 with UPSIZED jets and needle to get the mixture right, may be used. Recommended jet sizes are 90 for main (the big one) and 45 (approx) for slow speed (pilot). Remember that with too small jet sizes, too little fuel will flow through, leading to straining of the engine at high temperatures. Too large the size, and they could lead to an overflow. Best is to use a new carb rather than a secondhand one unless the carb is perfectly fine. It is recommended to use the Rajdoot carb and then upsize the jets, than the Bullet carb, simply because 2 stroke carbs and 4 stroke carbs have a lot of differences and a 2 stroke carb on a 4 stroker or vice versa will not work well. with inputs by Arthur, Anzal & other Yezdi clubbers
